CHENNAI: Sify Infinit Spaces has opened a data centre with a total designed capacity of 130 MW information technology load with Rs 2,500 crore investment. Chief minister
MK Stalin on Thursday inaugurated the facility located at Siruseri in the presence of industries minister T R B Rajaa and others.
The facility at present has 26 MW capacity with the ability to scale in the subsequent phases over the next five years according to M P Vijaykumar, Sify Technologies group chief financial officer. It is designed to handle artificial intelligence workloads with 130 kWh per rack capacity and targets hyperscalers, enterprise customers and govt consumption.
In a statement, Raju Vegesna, chairman and managing director of Sify Technologies, said the cumulative investment into the facility would cross Rs 13,000 crore, which includes potential investment from its customers. “We are not only building digital infrastructure but also creating an ecosystem of opportunity. We envision generating employment for 10,000 people which includes indirect employment as this facility ramps up,” he said.
Sify claims it is the only data centre in India with an on-site open cable landing station and aims at powering the campus entirely with renewable energy. This is Sify’s second data centre facility in the city and it has 14 campuses spread across six cities.
