T'puram: Actions will be taken to mitigate the bird menace around Thiruvananthapuram airport. This decision was made in a meeting chaired by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
The chief minister suggested scientifically processing slaughter waste and centralizing slaughter activities.
Unauthorized stalls and public dumping of waste should be addressed with alternative solutions. The airport's CSR funds should be utilized for waste management activities led by city corporation, Vijayan added.
He also urged ensuring CCTV surveillance at potential waste dumping sites. The Haritha Karama Sena should scientifically process organic waste and inorganic waste management should be strengthened.
The chief minister directed that the entire airport area should be made completely waste-free. Strict action should be taken against those disposing of slaughter waste in public. Awareness boards should also be installed, he said.
Meetings with resident associations, Kudumbashree neighbourhood groups and social, community and cultural organizations should be held to raise awareness about the dangers of bird menace and importance of waste management. These initiatives should be carried out under the leadership of corporation, Vijayan said.
A committee comprising representatives from the airport management, corporation and public representatives should be formed to plan activities. Govt will provide full support for transforming the airport area into a model region, the chief minister stated.
