Jamshedpur: The recently constructed on-campus hospital at the state-operated Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGMMC) in Dimna has initiated consultancy services for cardiology, neurology and oncology departments.
Officials have indicated that only Outdoor Patients Department (OPD) services have begun initially, owing to inadequate water supply at the new facility.
"Indoor facilities for neurology, cardiology and oncology will commence once sufficient water supply is established", stated college principal Dr Diwakar Hansda.
Patients requiring immediate indoor treatment are being directed to the MGM hospital in Sakchi, he said. The facility requires 50 MLD water daily for various operations, including the centralised air conditioning system, operation theatres (OTs), drinking, washing, cleaning and other essential functions.
Currently, the hospital operates with 20,000 litres of water daily. Since April 5, the super speciality hospital has received approximately 10 patients daily at these three crucial healthcare facilities. Cardiology department sees the highest patient volume, whilst neurology and oncology departments report moderate consultation numbers.
The college principal expects patient numbers to rise as awareness about the new facilities increases. He confirmed that four specialists, including two neurologists (one surgeon), one cardiologist and one oncologist, provide consultations on weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm.
Previously, patients with cardiac, neurological and cancer-related issues were directed to Rims Ranchi or private hospitals due to unavailable OPD facilities at MGM Sakchi hospital.
CM Hemant Soren inaugurated the on-campus hospital OPD building on October 5 2024.
