Pune: A case was registered against two Mumbai-based travel agency directors for duping a Nigdi trader and his friends of Rs 10 lakh. The duo had apparently promised the vicims of arranging a Bali tour in Indonesia, but neither were visas and tickets provided nor was their money returned to them.
A Nigdi police officer told TOI, the complainant, a resident of Yamunnagar in Nigdi, had planned a trip to Bali with his family and friends.
In March this year, the complainant approached a travel agency located on Lal Bahadur Shastri Road in Mumbai for hotel bookings, air tickets, and visas. "Between March 14 and April 23, the complainant and his friends collectively transferred Rs 10.89 lakh to different bank accounts provided to them," the officer said.
The officer added, the complainant planned the tour on May 3. However, he and his friends did not receive visas, air tickets and visas from the travel agency by May 3. When they asked for their money back, the two women directors of the agency stopped responding to them. "We registered a case under sections 316 (criminal breach of trust) and 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)," he said.
