Patna: The thief acted smart, but the police outsmarted her!
Hours after the thief committed a theft in a house in East Champaran district and quietly left the scene, challenging the cops to catch them through a handwritten letter left behind on the spot, the police caught her. The thief was none other than the girl from a family whose house was also broken in. The police said more criminals could be involved in the theft and they would be caught soon.
Police said they received information about incidents of theft committed in several houses at Badakagaon village under Pakaridayal police station in the past 10 days. They began an investigation after this. Even as their investigation continued, the thief threw an open challenge to the cops through a letter stating the accused committed thefts only in eight houses and two houses are yet to be targeted.
"Love you, police Mama…we are faster than you," the letter left on the spot mentioned, adding they have set a target of committing theft in 10 houses, out of which they targeted eight houses but two were still left. The letter added, "One of our targets appeared poor, but when we entered his home, we got enough ‘maals' (goods)."
Acting on the letter and some tip-off , an eight-member police team began an investigation into the matter and found, to their surprise, that one of the thieves happened to be none other than the girl of a family in whose house the theft was committed on April 7. "We arrested the girl identified as Shivani Kumari (21) and also recovered the jewellery stolen from the house," SDPO, Pakaridayal, Mohibullah Ansari, who led the investigation, told TOI Tuesday. The SDPO said the police also recovered the register from where she tore apart a page to write down the letter.
"We are still investigating the case and more skeletons are likely to tumble out," he said, adding the arrested girl is proving to be a hard nut to crack.
Stating that more people could be involved in the "mysterious" theft cases reported from Badakagaon village, East Champaran SP, Swarn Prabhat, said the incidents appeared to be part of a large conspiracy to tarnish the image of the police in the district, stating those involved in the cases would have to pay a very heavy price.
