Sasaram: Rohtas SP Harimohan Shukla on Tuesday suspended a police officer for storing seized liquor at his residence instead of depositing it in the police malkhana. The officer in question, sub-inspector (SI) Gaurav Kumar, who led the anti-liquor task force at Bhagwanpur police station, was found in violation of standard protocol. Prior to this, the SP had suspended SHO Uday Kumar and officer in charge Sunil Kumar for negligence and dereliction of duty.
Following a complaint regarding lax enforcement by the anti-liquor task force, the SP instructed circle inspector Bhagwanpur to conduct an investigation. The inquiry revealed that sub-inspector Gaurav Kumar had stored seized liquor at his own residence, breaching departmental regulations. Based on the investigation report, the SP took immediate action and suspended Gaurav Kumar.
SHO Uday Kumar had been suspended earlier for failing to register a case despite receiving an application. Following his suspension, Sunil Kumar, who was appointed as officer in charge, was also suspended by the SP.
Sunil had been responsible for investigating a murder case in Ramgarh village in Dec last year. His failure to file the charge sheet on time led to the accused being granted bail. This prompted a complaint from the prosecution, resulting in his suspension by the SP last week.
