Patna: Congress national spokesperson, Ajoy Kumar, alleged on Thursday that the incidents of crime against women and children had increased threefold under CM Nitish Kumar-BJP rule in Bihar.
Addressing reporters at Congress headquarters in Patna, the former Jharkhand party president said crime cases have increased by 323% in the Nitish-BJP govt.
Citing the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2006-2022 report, the former MP said the total crime cases registered in 2005 were 1,07,664 per year, which increased to 3,47,835 in 2022.
"Bihar was second after Uttar Pradesh in murders as 53,150 people were killed during the period. The criminals no more fear the police," he alleged, adding that the dignity of women was being "strangled" in the state.
Congress state president, Rajesh Kumar, alleged that dalits were facing injustice in Nitish Raj. "In the BJP ruled states, crime against dalits, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes have increased," he further alleged.
Congress national media coordinator and media in charge of Bihar assembly elections, Abhay Dubey, claimed his party would expose the Nitish-BJP govt.
Congress leader in the legislative council, Madan Mohan Jha, state media cell chairman Rajesh Rathorre, Motilal Sharma, Priyanka Gupta, Snehashish Vardhan Pandey and Gyan Ranjan among others were present at the press conference.
