Noida: An FIR was registered against 12 cops of Jewar police station — including its former station officer — after a Mathura resident alleged in court they threatened his family, framed his son in false cases, gave him electric shock in custody and demanded money to let him go over the past three years.
The case was registered against the 12 cops for attempt to murder and criminal intimidation, among other sections, following a court order. In his complaint, Tarun Gautam named then station officer Anjani Kumar Singh; SIs Rakesh Babu, Aniruddh Yadav, Sharad Yadav, Chandveer Singh, Sunny Kumar, and Neelkant Singh; and constables Sohit Kumar, Bhuri Singh, Jai Prakash, Naus Kumar, and Chhiter Singh.
According to the FIR — lodged on Tuesday — some 10-12 cops in plainclothes came to Gautam's house on Sept 4, 2022, and enquired about his son, Somesh. They were told that Somesh stayed in Delhi for B.Tech coaching.
"They did not believe me, and ransacked my house. My wife and I were abused and threatened to be killed. Our household goods were destroyed as well," the FIR read.
The cops allegedly took away Rs 22,000 from Gautam's cupboard, forced him into an SUV, and assaulted him until he agreed to take them to Somesh.
Around 3.45am, the police team reached Somesh's location, some of them in uniform. They thrashed Somesh, took him to Jewar police station, gave him electric shock, and threatened to kill him, the FIR alleged.
Two days later — on Sept 6 — they allegedly blindfolded him, and shot him in the leg "with an intention to kill". The young man was falsely implicated in a case of stolen vehicles in Faridabad, Gautam said, claiming to have CCTV evidence.
"The cops threatened me that if I filed any complaint about this incident, they would shoot my only son dead," Gautam claimed.
Somesh was implicated in three more cases in Jewar — one already registered, one to justify the Sept 6 incident in which he was shot at, and another under the Gangster Act.
Gautam said then SO Singh demanded Rs 1 lakh, which he paid with help from his brother. He alleged the same motorcycle that they claimed to have been stolen by Somesh was again shown as recovered from another accused, BK, under crime No 353 of 2022. A chargesheet was filed against BK in a Jewar court.
After Somesh got bail, he underwent treatment at Safdarjung Hospital. The bullet injury in his leg allegedly left him unable to run and play, his father alleged. Gautam said he tried filing a complaint at Jewar police station several times and even approached higher authorities in June 2024, but to no avail. He then moved the court.
The FIR against the 12 cops was registered under sections 452 (house-trespass with the intent to cause harm, assault, or wrongful restraint), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 395 (dacoity), 342 (wrongful confinement), 307 (attempt to murder), and other IPC provisions.
A senior police official said an investigation had been launched into the sequence of events to ascertain the role of the accused cops.
