Nagpur: Beltarodi police set a benchmark by completing the fastest probe in any case in recent times by submitting a 50-page chargesheet in 39 hours since registration of the molestation offence. The police team claimed the chargesheet would have been submitted earlier if there was no Sunday in between.
The case was registered at around 7.30pm on April 5 against two accused — Nikhil Kamble and Aniruddh Choundate — for manhandling and molesting a 51-year-old woman at New Manish Nagar. The chargesheet was sent and the two accused presented in court at 11am on April 7.
The survivor had approached police two days after she was molested in public by the two accused after she had rushed to rescue her son from their clutches after a road rage incident.
One of the accused, Kamble, had a criminal history, which was also informed to court as part of the chargesheet. Senior Inspector Mukund Kawade stated the spot ‘panchanama' (inspection report in the presence of witnesses) was promptly done along with collection of evidence in the e-sakshi app, as per govt guidelines. "Four witnesses were brought on record. The statements of the survivor and another key witness were recorded in the presence of a magistrate to bolster evidence," said Kawade, adding zonal DCP Rashmitha Rao supervised the process. "Of the 50 pages, around 47 pages in the chargesheet had testimonials," said Kawade, adding the court too showed considerable inclination to start the trial soon. "We can get a conviction in the case too," said Kawade, adding statements of the two key witnesses in case were also recorded electronically.
Three officers, assistant police inspectors Rameshwar Khandure, Pankaj Kakade, and sub-inspector Amol Shinde, apart from Senior PI Kawade and two head constables (Nandu Tayade and Ravindra Akare), were engaged with responsibilities of handling different aspects of the probe, which included collating CCTV footage, data analysis and recording statements.
