Crime Branch Foils Suspected Human Trafficking Attempt, Rescues Two Minor Girls from Nagpur Railway Station
Nagpur: The crime branch's Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) rescued two minor girls and detained two youths — aged 19 and 22 — at Nagpur railway station, foiling a suspected human trafficking attempt. The four had reportedly travelled from Bangalore and were intercepted based on a tip-off and technical surveillance.
The girls, aged 14 and 16, originally from Madhya Pradesh, had been working at a brick kiln along with their families in the Kapil Nagar area in city. The boys, also from MP but from different districts, had arrived in the area about six months ago and were working at the same site. According to police, the boys lured the girls with the promise of better paying jobs in a company at Bangalore.
On February 11, the girls left their homes and did not return. One of the girl's father filed a missing complaint at Kapil Nagar police station the next day, on February 12. This triggered a parallel investigation by the AHTU.
"Based on reliable input, we learned that the girls, along with the two boys, were coming to Nagpur from Bangalore. We planned the interception and caught them at Nagpur railway station," said senior inspector Lalita Todase of the AHTU.
During investigation, it was revealed that after leaving Nagpur, the group travelled to Hyderabad, where a third person joined them, and later they all proceeded to Bangalore. One of the girls attempted to contact her mother during the journey, which provided crucial information about their whereabouts.
Following their rescue, the girls were handed over to Kapil Nagar police station and later placed in the Child Remand Home for safety and counselling. "They will be handed over to their parents once they arrive here to collect them. While no clear signs of human trafficking have emerged so far, the case remains under investigation," Todase added.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of commissioner of police Ravindra Kumar Singal, Joint CP Nisar Tamboli, Additional CP (Crime) Sanjay Patil, DCP (Detection) Rahul Maknikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil, with the other team members.
