Bijnor: A 70-year-old farmer died while attempting to put out a fire that broke out in his wheat field in Mohandia village, under the Mandawar police station area, on Sunday.
Police said Krishna Singh had gone to his field in the afternoon to check on his harvested wheat crop when he noticed flames. In a desperate attempt to save the crop, he tried to douse the fire but got caught in it and died on the spot.
Hearing his cries, nearby farmers rushed to the scene and informed the police. The body was sent to the district hospital for autopsy. "There is a wave of mourning in the family due to the sudden death of Krishna," a local resident said.
Mandawar station house officer said, "Police have sent the body of the deceased to the district hospital for autopsy. A probe is on. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained."
