Ludhiana: A childhood friendship was marred to such an extent that it led to murder, said police investigating a murder in Jagraon. Ludhiana rural police filed a case against a man for the murder of his childhood friend, who he allegedly shot at a "Jago" (pre-marriage function) in Malak village of Jagraon on Thursday night. The accused was identified as Jarnail Singh, aged around 50 years and a resident of Issewal village.
Police said that Parminder Singh Lovely, owner of a jewellery showroom in Mullanpur, also aged around 50, was friends with the accused, Jarnail Singh, an ex-serviceman. They added that the accused would often visit the house and showroom of the deceased. However, Jarnail eventually became envious of Parminder's growing business, said the police.
On Thursday night, the pre-marriage function of Sandeep Singh, Jarnail's brother-in-law, was scheduled at his house in Malak village. A police official said that Parminder came to the function with his colleagues on Jarnail's invitation. Jarnail, who brought his licenced revolver with him, allegedly shot Parminder in the chest. Then he allegedly placed the revolver in the hands of his six-year-old son and escaped. Parminder, who was seriously injured, was rushed to a private hospital, from where he was referred to a govt hospital. When he reached the govt hospital, he was declared dead.
SHO, Sadar Jagraon police station, Surjeet Singh, said that a case has been registered under sections 101 (murder) and 223 BNS (related to disobedience of orders by public servants) and sections of the Arms Act. He added that the accused is at large and a manhunt has been launched to nab him.
