Lucknow: A man and his son lost their lives while three others were seriously injured after their car rammed into a stationary tractor-trolley on the Lucknow-Sitapur National Highway under Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) police station limits on Thursday morning, police said.
The accident occurred near the railway crossing in Deori Rukhara village when the speeding car lost control and collided with the heavy vehicle parked on the roadside. One of the victims died on the spot while the other succumbed during treatment.
According to SHO Sanjay Kumar Singh, the deceased were identified as Vikas Chandra Hajela (60) and his son Gaurav Hajela (42), residents of Subhash Nagar in Bareilly. The injured include Gaurav's wife Prachi (37), their 7-year-old son Ayan, and the car's driver Arpit Dixit, a resident of Izzatnagar, Bareilly.
The victims were rushed to Ramsagar Mishra Shaiya Joint Hospital in BKT from where all were referred to the Trauma Centre in Lucknow. Preliminary investigations suggest the car was heading towards Ayodhya for a pilgrimage to Ram Mandir when the driver allegedly dozed off at the wheel. Police officials said the driver of the tractor-trolley was not present at the time of the incident. Family members of the deceased have been informed, and postmortem procedures will follow upon their arrival.
