Kolkata: The West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front (WBJDF) presented a detailed account of the funds it received and its expenses during the ‘Justice for R G Kar' movement. The interim audit from Sept 13, 2024, to March 31, 2025, of the amount received via donations and expenses made so far was presented during a mass convention at the RG Kar Medical College on Wednesday.
WBJDF received funds through donations in three accounts—the WBJDF, Medical College Hospital RDA, and RG Kar Medical College RDA. While the WBJDF account received around Rs 2.3 crore, close to Rs 32 lakh were spent. The second account had around Rs 75 lakh, with approximately Rs 57 lakh spent, and a little over Rs 48 lakh were spent from close to Rs 65 lakh from the third account. Legal expenditure, Abhaya clinics, and logistics for the movement, including rallies and mass conventions, constituted a major portion of the expenditure.
Members of the Front said they would utilise the balance fund in further movements for justice. On Wednesday, they also launched their website for better connectivity and communication with the student and the junior doctor community, along with the masses who stood by them during their movement. The convention was attended by the parents of Abhaya, the 31-year-old PGT who was raped and murdered.
