Kolhapur: Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule directed that the stalled land acquisition process for the Kolhapur-Sangli connecting highway, which is part of NH 166-Nagpur-Ratnagiri, between Chokak and Ankali, be resumed.
The highway work was delayed due to opposition from farmers, who demanded fourfold the compensation.
On Wednesday, a meeting was called by Bawankule, attended by local representatives. Bawankule asked Kolhapur's district collector, Amol Yedge, who attended the meeting through video conference, to freshly submit the proposal to pay the farmers four times the land cost to resume the work. Bawankule said, "The work on this road connecting Kolhapur and Sangli districts has been pending for many years. Any obstacles in this regard should be resolved immediately. Farmers must receive fair compensation for land acquisition. For this, the Kolhapur district collector should hold discussions with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and submit a new proposal. The earlier multiplier factor of one for this particular road should now be increased to two."
‘Multiplier factor 1' means doubling the compensation amount, and ‘multiplier factor 2' means quadrupling the compensatio amount.
The meeting was attended by the Kolhapur district guardian minister Prakash Abitkar, MP Dhairyashil Mane, MLA Ashokrao Mane, former MLA Rajendra Yadravkar, and revenue officials, among others.
