Kolhapur: A motorist, trying to drive across a road in the Kaneri Phata area, narrowly escaped being impaled when metal beams crashed through his windshield and stopped barely inches from him on Monday.
The accident occurred along the service road of the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway 48.
The scary visuals captured by a CCTV camera show a goods carrier, transporting iron beams, suddenly braking when the car appeared in front of it. Due to inertia, the iron beams, which had been loaded under the roof of the carrier, slid forward and pierced the windshield of the car. The beams stopped inches away from the driver.
Tabassum Magdum, the in-charge of the Gokul Shirgaon police station, told TOI: "The incident occurred on Monday. The car driver has not approached us to file a complaint yet. We have tracked down the goods carrier and will summon its driver. We will file a suo motu case against the carrier driver for dangerous driving. Also, we will trace the driver of the car."
Magdum said after the accident, the car driver left the spot without filing a complaint.
