Army jawan killed, son critically hurt in road accident
Kanpur: A 35-year-old Army jawan was mowed down by a truck and his son sustained serious injuries near Akbarpur overbridge in Kanpur Dehat district late on Wednesday night. The truck driver fled the scene abandoning the vehicle.
The police have launched a search to nab the absconding driver.
Aniruddh Pal, son of Ram Babu, was stationed in the artillery at Nasirabad, Rajasthan and had come to his home in Sundar Nagar, Panki area of Kanpur Nagar on leave.
On Wednesday night, he, along with his 14-year-old son Aryan, was heading to attend a wedding ceremony in Akbarpur. Around 11pm, as they approached the overbridge on Kanpur-Etawah highway, a truck hit their scooter. Aniruddh fell down and the truck ran over his head killing him on the spot. Aryan sustained critical injuries. Upon being informed, the police arrived at the spot and sent Aryan to the hospital.
Station officer Satish Kumar Singh said that the body was sent to the mortuary. The police have launched search for the absconding driver, and action will be taken once a formal complaint is received, he added.
