IMC LoP arrested after clash between Cong, BJP workers
Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation leader of the opposition, Chintu Chouksey, was arrested on Sunday on the charges of attempt to murder and rioting after a violent clash broke out between Congress and BJP workers in Heera Nagar on Saturday late night.
The incident took place after an argument erupted between BJP leader Kapil Pathak and son and nephew of Chintu Chouksey over removal of a water tanker parked on the road. The argument escalated, and both sides including local political workers, got involved in a physical fight.
Pathak later filed a police complaint accusing Chouksey and eight others of trying to kill him using a shovel and an iron rod. Although members of the other group were also injured, they have not yet filed any complaint.
DCP Hansraj Singh said that the dispute began over a disagreement between Kapil Pathak and Chintu Chouksey's son over a parked water tanker. "Chintu's son Ishaan and nephew Rohan had asked Kapil to remove the tanker from the road. This led to an altercation during which Kapil's father allegedly struck Rohan with an iron rod. Congress workers and Chintu's family members then arrived at the spot and reportedly attacked Kapil and his family, injuring his father and wife," he said.
Based on Pathak's complaint and medical evidence, a case under section 109 for attempt to murder, 296 for obscene acts and songs, 351 (2) for criminal intimidation, 115(2) punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, 333 for house trespassing after preparation for assault, 324 (4) punishment for the offence, 191(2) and 191 (3) for rioting, 190 for offense committed by unlawful assembly of the BNS was registered against eight accused.
The police arrested Chintu Chouksey, Subhash Yadav, and Ravi Prajapati on Sunday. They were presented in court and sent to jail.
Rohan Chouksey is currently hospitalized, while Ishaan Chouksey, Radheshyam Chouksey, Gaurav Chaudhary, and Sumit Thakur are absconding. Authorities are actively working to locate and arrest the remaining accused.
Chintu Chouksey was arrested from his home and taken to Heera Nagar police station. After initial formalities, he was taken to MY Hospital for a medical check-up. "This is a lawless kingdom with a blind king. I wasn't even at the scene. A small issue has been turned into a serious case of attempted murder. This is nothing but jungle raj under the BJP government," Chouksey said while undergoing medical check-up at MYH.
Following his arrest, large numbers of Congress workers gathered outside MG Road and Heera Nagar police stations, raising slogans against the BJP government and calling the arrest politically motivated.
Several senior Congress leaders, including former minister Sajjan Verma, Surjit Chaddha, Sadashiv Yadav, Ashwin Joshi, and Shobha Oza met police commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh and raised concerns over the arrest.
DCP Singh said that political rivalry between both the groups has been going on for the past several years and in the last three years, both the groups have registered multiple FIRs against each other.
Reacting to the arrest of Chouksey, Congress state president Jitu Patwari in a media briefing on Sunday said that if action was taken against Chintu Chouksey, it should also be taken against the other party. "Chintu Chouksey was picked up at 5 in the morning, whereas the corporator who humiliated the other person is saying that he is still alive. In such a situation, where will Indore stand? The country is moving in the opposite direction of the dreams shown by Narendra Modi," he said.
