Mohanlal's highly anticipated film 'L2: Empuraan', the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster 'Lucifer', is set for its OTT streaming premiere after a successful run in theatres.

The movie directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran will be streaming on the OTT giant JioHotstar from April 24th. The OTT platform shared the news in an official social media post.
The movie written by Murali Gopy marks Mohanlal's return as Khureshi-Ab’raam, also known as Stephen Nedumpally, with Prithviraj reprising his role as Zayed Masood in a significantly expanded part.

Mohanlal also shared a similar post on his social media handle. The movie was released in theatres on March 27, 2025, and quickly became one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films, earning over Rs 105 crore in India within 21 days and Rs 265.5 crore worldwide, according to trade reports by Sacnilk.

The film was shot across multiple international locations, including the UK, US, and various parts of India, and released in five languages to cater to a pan-Indian audience.
About the film
The film's plot is about five years after the events of Lucifer, with Kerala’s political landscape in turmoil amid spies, power brokers, and chaos. As the state faces instability, old secrets resurface, and the "Devil" rises once again to confront the storm and protect what remains. The story delves into political intrigue, power struggles, and personal vendettas, continuing the intense narrative that made the original film a massive hit.

Following its theatrical release, 'L2: Empuraan' faced controversy over scenes that allegedly referenced the Gujarat riots. In response to concerns raised by some viewers, the filmmakers voluntarily removed 17 portions from the film.
