Gogoi must answer about Pak visit: CM
Guwahati: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said if 40 people can be arrested for their alleged social media remarks in favour of Pakistan, then the govt can also initiate action against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi for visiting that country.
Talking to the media on the sidelines of a campaign for panchayat elections, the CM said, "He must answer about his Pakistan visit and the citizenship of his children. He must answer why his wife visited Pakistan 19 times."
He said an offender is an offender regardless of context, and therefore, Gogoi's visit to Pakistan constitutes an offense. Meanwhile, two more persons — Mistaqul Alom from Hojai and Jahirul Islam from South-Salmara Mankachar district — were apprehended for allegedly "defending Pakistan on Indian soil," raising the total number of arrests to 39 since the Pahalgam terror attack last month.
The fresh arrestees are Mistaqul Alom in Hojai and Jahirul Islam in South-Salmara Mankachar district. AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was the first to be arrested for alleged controversial remarks related to the Pahalgam terror attack in a video that was circulated on social media. He was arrested on April 24.
