Gurgaon: In Sector 12A's Pocket C, life has become a daily fight against filth and rotting stench amid a deafening silence from MCG. For over three years, more than 70 families have been forced to live amid piles of garbage, rodent infestations and the stench of animal carcasses — all dumped in a disputed plot right in front of their houses.
From construction debris to household waste and even dead animals, the open plot has turned into an unofficial dumping ground. Even the trolleys engaged with MCG were seen offloading waste on the same disputed plot.
The stench is overpowering, especially during the monsoon. Residents say it is no longer just a sanitation issue — it is a public health hazard. "The stink hits you before you even enter the lane. There's rotting garbage, flies and rats all over. During monsoon, it turns into a hellhole," Manoj Goyal, a resident who lives just 20m away from the dumpsite and lost count of how many complaints he filed, said.
There are no sweepers. No cleaning. Not even a token visit from sanitation staffers for the past three years, say residents. "We made several complaints to the MCG, both online and in person, but nothing changed. Instead, the problem only got worse. No sweeper came to our area in the last three years. Not one. Many families are now seriously considering leaving the area as it is difficult to live here," Goyal said.
Senior sanitation inspector of MCG Sandeep Kumar said that the municipal corporation will "look into the matter" and assured that action would be taken on priority.
The residents claim the lack of cleanliness made it impossible for them to even use the park in the area. "There is a park, but it is surrounded by so much filth that no one wants to go there. No one can stand for a few minutes. It's a shame. The MCG commissioner should visit the area and see for himself. MCG should start the cleanliness drive from here rather than doing some photo ops," another resident said.
