NEW DELHI: Police officials have initiated legal proceedings against three individuals for allegedly harassing and issuing threats to a differently-abled woman who operates a government-sanctioned stall in a Thane district village of Maharashtra.
The authorities filed an FIR on Saturday incorporating sections from the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, following receipt of her complaint.
The complainant, a 49-year-old polio-affected individual, serves as the president of the Thane district's Prahar Divyanga Kranti Sanghatana. She operates a stall allocated to her through a state government programme designed to support persons with disabilities.
According to her complaint, on March 15, one accused named Ramdas Khot visited her stall, used offensive language, and demanded she discontinue her association with the Prahar Divyanga Kranti Sanghatana. The incident involved verbal intimidation and abuse.
The woman further stated that Khot warned her about potential physical assault by his associates, Krishna Shinde and Rizvan Sayyed, who would allegedly visit her residence.
The investigation continues, with no arrests reported thus far.
