Denied sex, man rapes lover’s little daughter in Namakkal, arrested
Namakkal: The Pallipalayam police in the district on Tuesday arrested a 33-year-old guest worker from Odisha for raping a baby girl, who was just one year and five months old, at a secluded place in their jurisdiction on Sunday night.
An investigation officer said the toddler was the daughter of the guest worker's lover. "He was in a live-in relationship with a woman from his state. On Sunday, he attempted to have sex with the woman, who had left her husband for him and been staying with him with her two sons and a baby girl at Pallipalayam. She denied him sex, stating her baby girl was crying."
Frustrated, the guest worker, who was employed with a powerloom unit in the same locality, took the baby girl to a secluded place and raped her, the officer said. "He returned home with the toddler an hour later. The woman noticed bleeding from her daughter's private area and rushed her to the Erode Govt Medical College and Hospital. Doctors there alerted the officials at the Namakkal district child protection office and they in turn informed the district superintendent of police, S Rajesh Kannan."
The SP subsequently directed the Pallipalayam police to arrest the guest worker for raping his lover's daughter. "We traced his hideout and went there today (Tuesday). On seeing us, he attempted to flee. But we nabbed him. He sustained fractures to his leg and arm during the escape bid," the officer said.
The Pallipalayam police booked the guest worker under sections 115(2), 87 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, and sections 5(m), 5(i), 5(n), 5(r) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and produced him before a judicial magistrate. He was later lodged in the Salem Central Prison under judicial custody.
