Prof arrested for impregnating student, forcing abortion

Chennai: A 45-year-old assistant professor at a sports university near Chengalpet district was arrested on Monday for impregnating one of his students.
Police said the professor, Rajeshkumar, was in a relationship with the 23-year-old student for over a year. When the student told him she was two months pregnant, Rajeshkumar took her to a private hospital in Padur for an abortion. However, the student suffered complications during the procedure, leading to her hospitalisation. The doctors at the hospital informed the Kelambakkam police.
During questioning, the student told Thazhambur police that Rajasekar impregnated her and forced her to have an abortion. The student is now at the Rajiv Gandhi Govt General Hospital. Investigations showed Rajeshkumar married another woman on April 3 and was living in the quarters nearby. The student was staying in the hostel for the past one year.
Police booked Rajeshkumar on charges of causing a miscarriage without the woman's consent, sexual intercourse by a person in authority, and concealing the existence of his previous marriage from the person he was marrying for the second time.
Police are investigating to see if Rajeshkumar was involved in similar relationships with other students.
