Himachal Pradesh government should send back all Pakistanis: Anurag Thakur
Shimla: BJP MP and former Union minister Anurag Singh Thakur has called for the immediate removal of all Pakistani nationals —legal and illegal — from Himachal Pradesh, amid growing political outrage over the April 22 terror attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam that killed 27 tourists.
Thakur led a protest in his constituency, Hamirpur, on Monday as part of a statewide campaign of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) across all 17 of its organisational districts in HP. Condemning the killings, he submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner demanding the identification and deportation of all Pakistani nationals residing in the state.
ISI, Pak army behind attack: BJP
Describing the massacre as a Pakistan-sponsored act of terrorism, Thakur accused the Pakistani military and spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), of orchestrating the assault. The MP said: "This brutal killing of innocent citizens in Pahalgam has shaken the entire nation. It was carried out with the backing of Pakistan's ISI and military. Such barbaric acts, targeting people based on religion, shame humanity. The attack has generated a global anti-Pakistan sentiment and the Indian govt will now deliver a strong and decisive response."
Cong accused of inaction
The BJP MP also accused HP's Congress govt of failing to deport Pakistani nationals residing in the state. "Why is the Congress compelled to speak Pakistan's language? Is it standing with India or not?" Thakur asked the rival party. He further alleged that an illegal mosque was being constructed in Sanjauli, Shimla district, claiming the Waqf Board was attempting to occupy land without producing ownership documents.
Parallel protests were held in Shimla, where state BJP president Dr Rajeev Bindal addressed a gathering at CTO Chowk. Bindal accused the Congress govt of endangering state security by allowing Pakistanis to stay in HP for "vote bank politics". "Providing people from a hostile nation such as Pakistan with shelter is not just irresponsible — it's dangerous. The Congress govt is putting the state's safety at risk," Dr Bindal said.
Political stakes, security concerns
The BJP's aggressive stand comes ahead of a charged political season and amid growing national scrutiny of internal security. Both Thakur and Bindal framed their demands as matters of national interest, portraying the Congress-led state administration as weak on security and lenient on illegal immigration. The Congress govt has not yet issued a formal response to the allegations.
