Another Punjab pastor accused of rape, 'careless' abortion kills 22-year-old BCA student

Another pastor from Punjab, Pastor Jashan Gill, is accused of raping a 22-year-old woman, leading to a botched abortion that caused her death. The victim's father alleges police inaction and threats, seeking justice through a high court CBI probe. This follows the recent life sentencing of Pastor Bajinder Singh for a 2018 rape case.

A pastor in Punjab's Gurdaspur district stands accused of raping a 22-year-old woman and forcing her into an abortion, leading to her death. The victim's father alleges a lack of action and calls for a CBI probe.
NEW DELHI: Days after self-styled pastor Bajinder Singh was sentenced to life in a 2018 rape case, another pastor from Punjab’s Gurdaspur district has been accused of raping a 22-year-old woman and allegedly forcing her into a botched abortion that led to her death.
The victim’s father has alleged that Pastor Jashan Gill, who operated in Abul Khair village, lured his daughter and raped her. “My daughter was a BCA student. He made her pregnant and then forced her to undergo an abortion through a nurse named Kulwant Kaur in Khokhar village,” the father said in a video statement to news agency ANI.

According to him, the abortion was carried out “carelessly,” leading to a serious infection. “She started having stomach pain and was taken to the hospital, where an ultrasound revealed she had undergone an abortion. We took her to Amritsar, but she died during treatment,” he said.
The incident reportedly took place in 2023, but the father claims no action has been taken so far. “Despite repeated pleas, Punjab Police have taken no action. Instead, they’re protecting him. I’ve received threats and was forced to leave my village. I want justice for my daughter and have moved the high court demanding a CBI inquiry.”
This fresh allegation comes days after Mohali's additional district and sessions judge Vikrant Kumar sentenced Pastor Bajinder Singh to life imprisonment under IPC sections 376 (rape), 323 (causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation). The woman in that case had accused him of sexual assault, blackmail, and continued exploitation after he recorded an obscene video of her.
Pastor Bajinder, also known as the ‘Yeshu Yeshu prophet,’ was taken into custody immediately after the sentencing and shifted to Patiala Jail. While he was convicted, five of his co-accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence, and one died during trial.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
