Chandigarh: Continuing his attack on the leader of the opposition in Punjab assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, the Punjab unit head of the Aam Aadmi Party, Aman Arora, on Wednesday termed the
Congress leader's recent statements as "reckless and politically motivated".
Arora claimed that the statements were intended to create panic among the people of Punjab. He also criticised Bajwa for resorting to personal attacks rather than cooperating with the police.
Bajwa, in a recent interview, claimed that 50 bombs had entered Punjab — 18 of which exploded, while 32 were still unaccounted for. Arora responded by saying that if Bajwa's statements were based on credible information, he should immediately share it with law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
Challenging Bajwa to have a public debate on the issue, Arora said: "Choose the time, date, and platform; I will expose the truth behind your statements within five minutes."
He also slammed Bajwa for allegedly refusing to disclose the source of his information to the Punjab Police and intelligence officials who approached him for clarification.
"If Bajwa indeed has access to sensitive national security information that even intelligence agencies are unaware of, he is duty-bound to share it. However, he failed to do so, offering contradictory excuses instead," said the Aam Aadmi Party Punjab chief.
Arora also pointed out inconsistencies in Bajwa's claims, where he alternately cited newspaper reports and unnamed personal sources as the basis for his statements. "Such baseless and unverified remarks are highly irresponsible and erode public trust in political leadership," said the AAP leader.
Responding to Bajwa's personal remarks, Arora rejected accusations of engaging in below-the-belt politics.
"I never indulged in personal attacks or frivolous allegations. My focus has always been on issues concerning Punjab's safety and welfare. Bajwa's personal jibes are merely an attempt to divert attention from real issues," he said.
He also brought up incidents from 1990–91 and 1992 involving Khalistan Liberation Force terrorist Manjit Singh Kadian. "Bajwa must recall the revelations made during Kadian's interrogation, including plots to target senior Congress leaders and links to explosive-laden vehicles. These events were reported in national investigative magazines, and Bajwa should clarify his connection, if any," Arora added.
Arora further said Bajwa should either provide credible information to the Punjab Police or apologise to the public.
"If you genuinely possess such information, cooperate with the authorities. If not, stop misleading the people of Punjab and creating unnecessary fear," he said.
