Massive blaze engulfs over half of contentious Adampur landfill

Bhopal: A significant fire erupted at the Adampur Khanti landfill, Bhopal's solid waste disposal site, here on Tuesday around 1 pm.
Strong winds fueled the blaze, causing it to spread rapidly across the garbage pit.
The resulting black smoke has adversely affected nearby villages, causing residents to experience symptoms such as red eyes and breathing difficulties.
Some villagers, particularly children and the elderly, have temporarily relocated to other villages or relatives' homes in Bhopal to avoid the smoke. Flames reached an estimated height of 50 feet, with black smoke visible from as far as 10 kilometers away. Initial attempts to control the fire with two on-site fire engines proved insufficient, and the fire soon engulfed over half of the landfill. Authorities responded by deploying over 40 fire engines and 60 tankers.
