BENGALURU: City police have registered a suo motu case after CCTV footage emerged on social media showing a man molesting a woman at Bharati Layout in Suddaguntepalya in the early hours of April 3.
The video, captured around 1.52 am, shows the man approaching two women walking through a narrow lane and forcibly pushing one of them against a wall before fleeing the scene.

“The video clearly shows the man molesting one of the women and running away. We have booked a case of stalking and sexual harassment under the relevant sections, and efforts are on to trace the victim so that we can file a formal complaint,” said an investigating officer.
Such incidents happen in big city, says Karnataka home minister Parameshwara
Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara on Monday addressed the recent molestation incident in Bengaluru's Suddaguntepalya, stating such cases occasionally occur in big cities despite overall peace due to police efforts.
"Police are working continuously round-the-clock ignoring rain and cold. That is why there is peace in Bengaluru. In a big city like Bengaluru, here and there incidents like this do take place," he said.
Parameshwara said he gives daily instructions to Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda to strengthen patrolling and monitoring.
"I tell him that patrolling should happen in every area in a disciplined and effective way. We take action as per law. Beat system has to be made very effective. That is the reason that I directed the police commissioner about it," he added.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
