TARN TARAN: A pall of grief descended upon the household of
Harsimrat Kaur, a young girl from Dhundha village, after her family received the heartbreaking news of her tragic death in Ontario, Canada.
Harsimrat, daughter of former Sarpanch Sukhwinder Singh, lost her life after being struck by a stray bullet during a violent shooting incident.
Local villagers, relatives and the friends of the hapless girl had gathered at her village to share the grief with the family.
Speaking with a heavy heart, Sukhwinder Singh, former Sarpanch of Dhundha village, said the family was informed of the tragedy on Friday afternoon by relatives living in Canada.
Father of two, including a boy, Sukhwinder informed that Harsimrat had moved to Canada for higher studies around two years ago.
Expressing deep concern over the safety of international students in Canada, he said, “The situation isn’t any better there—just like here, gangsters are engaged in gang wars,” adding that his daughter was simply innocently waiting at a bus stop when she was hit by a stray bullet during a gang-related shootout involving two vehicles.
Calling for accountability, a family friend and former Sarpanch Jagtar Singh urged the Canadian government to take stringent action against those responsible for such reckless acts of violence.
"The safety of foreign students, who leave their homes with dreams of a better future, must be a priority," he said.
He also expressed hope that the Canadian authorities will act immediately to bring justice and ensure such incidents do not rob more families of their loved ones.
