Prayagraj: A joint team of the Special Task Force (Prayagraj unit) and Maharashtra police on Sunday arrested two members of a gang involved in the cloning of debit cards. The gang had pan-India network and targeted ATMs without security personnel.
The team recovered one bag, two mobiles, one Aadhaar card, and Rs 5,500 cash from their possession. The arrested persons, identified as Dilshad Khan and Mohd Mohsin, were residents of Leelapur in Pratapgarh district. Police said that Dilshad Khan was the kingpin of the racket, while Mohsin was an active member. Both the accused were wanted by Palghar police in Maharashtra in connection with an ATM fraud case. The gang used to target gullible people who had no idea of drawing money through ATMs. On March 25, the duo withdrew Rs 70,000 from an ATM in Vasai West (Palghar) after changing the ATM card of an elderly man. On March 23, the duo withdrew Rs 49,000 after swapping the ATM card of another person at Panvel in Navi Mumbai. Later, Dilshad escaped to Pratapgarh to dodge Maharashtra police, while Mohsin was hiding in Maharashtra itself.
On Sunday, the joint team of STF and Maharashtra police arrested Dilshad when he arrived at the railway station to pick up Mohsin. The gang was also active in Varanasi, Bhilwara and other cities. Dilshad had seven cases pending against him.
