In a delightful crossover of cricket and television, fans of the beloved Hindi sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC) are excited as the robot dog is being named ‘Chamapak’ introduced in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The robotic dog has officially been named Champak, a title that instantly struck a chord with TMKOC fans. The fans fondly associate the name with the iconic character Champaklal Gada, father of Jethalal, played by actor Amit Bhatt.
The name of the robot dog was chosen through an online fan poll conducted by IPL organizers. The name Champak emerged as the clear favorite of the fans. The announcement was made just before the much-anticipated clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday. According to IPL’s official statement, Champak won by a landslide, and the internet responded with laughter, nostalgia, and a flood of memes.

Unveiled at the Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the robot can walk, run, jump, and even stand on its hind legs. It is also equipped with an HD camera to offer never-seen-before angles and behind-the-scenes visuals. The introduction video featured commentator and former New Zealand cricketer Danny Morrison, who playfully dubbed it his “new broadcast companion.”
Since its debut, Champak has taken on multiple roles—from being the coin-bearer during tosses (including the MI vs SRH game) to delighting fans with its pet-like behavior and tech-savvy capabilities.
