Panaji: An LPG cylinder exploded at the house at Bhati village in Sanguem destroying the thatched roof and all household items. According to sources, a lady resided along with her daughter in that house.
The occupants of the house, an old lady and her daughter, were safe as the two went to a neighbour's house to sleep for the night.
Despite the intensity of the blast and the damage to household items, nobody was injured in the incident.
The blaze destroyed all the household items, including a cupboard, cash, and gold jewellery, leaving the woman and her young daughter homeless.
“We got a call at 1.55am that a cylinder had blasted near the primary school at Velipwada, Bhati,” said an official from the Curchorem fire station.
The firemen helped put out the fire and moved the debris of the house to ensure no secondary fires spread to nearby homes. A fire service official said that the loss couldn’t be estimated.
Additionally, firefighters from the Old Goa fire station were called upon to douse a fire that began on the roof of a defunct godown at Agasaim. The prompt response ensured that the fire did not spread from the roof of the godown and engulf the entire warehouse.
“The plastic sheet on the roof caught fire burning the asbestos roofing sheets. The losses are estimated at around Rs 10,000, and no casualties were reported.
