Erika Alexander and Kim Coles delighted audiences with a vintage surprise during the Thursday, May 1, episode of SHERRI with the announcement of their brand-new podcast, ReLiving Single. The co-stars of the hit Living Single are uniting again—this time on the mic—for a weekly podcast that will provide an up-close, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the groundbreaking 1990s show that influenced an entire generation.
Made by Hartbeat and Color Farm Media, ReLiving Single goes in-depth on the heritage of Living Single, which ran on Fox from 1993 to 1998. The pioneering show revolutionized comedy, friendship, dating, and the Black experience on TV. Erika Alexander played the quick-witted and sassy public defender Maxine Shaw, and Kim Coles charmed and brought heart to the character of Synclaire James, a would-be actress with contagious optimism.
The original ensemble cast included Queen Latifah as Khadijah, the straight-shooting magazine editor and Synclaire's cousin; Kim Fields as style-conscious Regine; T.C. Carson as smooth-financing guru Kyle; and John Henton as lovable carpenter Overton.
During the interview with host Sherri Shepherd to discuss the podcast, the conversation inevitably turned to the possibility of a Living Single reboot. Shepherd posed the question on every fan's mind: was a reunion in the offing?
I would say yes because I think we all still look good.
See, that's my very shallow reasoning," Coles, now 63, laughed. "And because we all still love each other and there's still a beautiful chemistry that will never die. So I would say yes if the opportunity presented itself.
Alexander, 55, was evasive but created more intrigue: "I believe that's a decent reason for y'all to head on over there and check out the podcast and see."
Coles described what people can look forward to hearing from ReLiving Single: "We do all the behind-the-scenes, things that you've never heard and also things that we're revealing to each other that we didn't know at the time. So there's tears and joy and all the things."
With warm recollections, hidden stories, and the same chemistry which made the initial show a time-honored classic, ReLiving Single promises to be an essential listen for old and new fans alike.
