The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election were held between 11 February to 8 March 2017 for the 403 seats of the UP Vidhan Sabha. The entire election took place in 7 phases.

In the previous election in 2012, the Samajwadi Party (SP) won by a comfortable majority of 224 seats while the BSP was reduced to 80 seats in the last assembly elections held in 2012. The BJP and Congress got 47 and 28 seats respectively. The incumbent SP government under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav will complete its full term of five years in 2017.
