'Asthram' is the story involving Inspector Akilan, played by Shaam, who is on medical leave due to a hand injury but cannot stay away from duty. He begins probing a series of bizarre public suicides where victims stab themselves fatally. Teaming up with rookie officer Sumanth, Akilan discovers that all the victims were chess players connected by a mysterious book titled 'Chess The Secret', which references ancient Japanese ritual suicides. As the investigation deepens, Akilan uncovers links involving a psychiatrist named Rudhran, a wealthy businessman James, and his son Martin. A crucial flashback narrated by Rudhran sheds light on the case's dark background.
Alongside the crime narrative, the film explores Akilan’s personal life, especially his relationship with his wife Nira, a media professional.
Cast and crew of the filmThe film features Shaam in the lead role, supported by Venba, Aroul D Shankar, Nizhagal Ravi, Nira, Ranjith DSM, Jiva Ravi, and Videsh Anand. The screenplay and dialogues were crafted by Jegan MS, while Kalyan Venkatraman handled cinematography and Bhoopathy Vedhagiri took charge of editing.
