VADODARA: Rakshit Chaurasiya, the law student accused of rashly driving his car into three two-wheelers, leaving a woman dead and seven injured, was sent to judicial custody by a court here on Monday. He was presented in court after his two-day extended custodial interrogation ended.
Chaurasiya was arrested on Thursday night for the accident that left a woman, Himani Patel (37), dead, while her husband, Purav Patel (40), is admitted to SSG Hospital in critical condition. Six others were also injured in the accident.
Chaurasiya was driving the car involved and was arrested after being apprehended by people at the accident site near Amrapali Complex in Karelibaug. Police were initially granted his custody for one day.
On Saturday, police sought an extension of custodial interrogation to investigate Chaurasiya in connection with a video filmed at the accident site. Chaurasiya was seen shouting ‘Another Round', a woman's name, and other things in the video before he was caught by people at the site. He was remanded in police custody for two more days.
It emerged that ‘Another Round' referred to a movie, whose poster was found in Chaurasiya's apartment. The Danish movie, released in 2020, features characters who believe that maintaining a constant level of alcohol in their blood increases creativity and confidence.
Police did not seek extension of his custody on Monday when they presented Chaurasiya in court. Chaurasiya was taken into judicial custody and sent to the central jail in the city.
