Brad Marchand’s Trade Video Sparks Uproar Among Fans As Don Sweeney Gets Blamed

In a video released by Brad Marchand’s former team, Behind the B, it shows Don Sweeney, the general manager of the team, entering a meeting room. As he renters, Don Sweeney says, “Florida just traded for March. It’s a second-round pick ’27, turns into a first-round pick if they get through two rounds and he plays 50 percent of the games. Retention 50 percent.”
As soon as Don Sweeney announced that the Florida Panthers had traded for Brad Marchand, somebody muttered “Jesus” as the air in the room shifted.
This video has not gone down well with the fans as many are furious at this decision and at Don Sweeney, the former NHL player and the current GM of the Boston Bruins.

A fan commented, “Whoever says "Jesus" right after should by the new GM. Looks like even Sweeney knew how shit getting a 2nd for Marchand while retaining 50% of his salary was once he said it out loud. The rattling of the jar was the pennies on the dollar they let their Captain go for. Sick.”
Another fan wrote, “Interesting phrasing…”Florida traded for Marchy” as opposed to “I traded Marchy to Florida”. Separating himself from the decision he made. Also like how his volume lowered every time he told a condition of the trade ending with a whisper “50% retention” “

A third fan wrote, “Brutal.Terrible way to end it”, while another user wrote, “Guy should’ve been fired on the spot. I would rather lose Marchand for nothing than help my rival win a Stanley cup. Disgusting”.

Days after Brad Marchand was traded to the Florida Panthers, his former team lost to his current team, even though the star player could not participate due to an injury. Brad Marchand spent 16 years with the Boston Bruins and his trade has sent shockwaves across the league.
