Four suffer burns after gas fire engulfs shops
Vadodara: A huge fire broke out in shops in the Manjalpur area of the city on Wednesday evening. Four people suffered burns, and the fire brought traffic on Indra Complex Road to a stop for nearly an hour.
Fire brigade officials said some people were digging to lay a telecom cable when they accidentally hit an underground gas pipeline. The leaking gas was ignited by an electric spark and the fire broke out in a juice shop. The flames soon spread to two adjacent shops and the rooms above them.
"We had to press in four fire vehicles and it took an hour and a half to douse the flames. Two of those injured have suffered about 30% burns, while the other two suffered less severe burns," a fire brigade official said.
