Trichy, Karur receive overnight rain; mercury set to rise again
Trichy: Several parts of Trichy district received moderate overnight rain from Friday evening until around 2 am on Saturday, bringing brief relief from the summer heat. As of 6 am, the district recorded an average rainfall of 5.96 mm, with showers reported not just in urban areas but also across Lalgudi, Manachanallur, Musiri, Manapparai, and Thiruverumbur taluks.
However, the respite was short-lived. Clear skies returned by Saturday morning, and daytime temperatures soared back to summer levels, with Trichy recording a high of 38°C. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures are likely to touch 40°C in the coming days, though there is a chance of moderate rain on April 13.
Neighbouring Karur district also experienced overnight rain, with an average of 19.43 mm. Aravakurichi received the highest rainfall at 93 mm, while other areas like Krishnarayapuram saw moderate showers. Like Trichy, Karur too woke up to sunny skies on Saturday, with the maximum temperature reaching 38.1°C.
