Trichy: A senior police officer was issued a memo and asked to provide an explanation on Saturday after a video of him shouting obscene language at a devotee went viral on social media. The officer, identified as Jeeyapuram DSP V N Palani, was seen in the video berating the devotee for allegedly not following the queue system at the Vayalur Murugan temple.
Following the circulation of the video, the superintendent of police's office issued a memo and sought a formal explanation from the officer.
Hundreds of devotees had gathered at the temple to fulfill vows and offer prayers to the lord. However, devotees who usually enter through the southern gate faced difficulties as it remained closed. Amid the confusion, a devotee attempted to enter without standing in the queue. Palani, who was on security duty at the time, was seen rudely scolding the devotee.
