Kerala Chicken production to increase by 25%, says min
T'puram: LSG minister MB Rajesh said the production of Kudumbashree Kerala Chicken will be increased by 25%. He spoke after the switch-on ceremony of the poultry processing plant in Kadinamkulam on Saturday. The minister also inaugurated the mini poultry processing unit in Anayara.
Rajesh said that currently, Kerala Chicken project produces 8% of the chicken required for the domestic market. Production and distribution will be made more efficient. Last fiscal year, the project achieved sales of Rs 105.63 crore and is entering a new phase of growth.
Poultry farmers earn an average income of Rs 50,000 every two months and beneficiaries operating outlets earn Rs 89,000 monthly. The project provides direct employment to 1,000 people, he noted.
Currently, frozen products are marketed under ‘Kudumbashree Kerala Chicken' brand in collaboration with Meat Products of India. Once the Kadinamkulam plant is fully operational, value-added products will be made available from early May, Rajesh added. TNN
