Maharashtra: Two held for extortion in Thane

THANE: The anti extortion cell of Thane crime branch arrested two persons allegedly for extorting a builder and demanding ransom, they were trapped while accepting the money.
The police said that the accused has been identified as Rajesh Bhoir alias Raju alias Lanki 47 and his accomplice Suraj Pawar 38, both residents of Dombivli.
The officer said that the complainant had purchased a piece of land and was constructing buildings on it.

The accused started making complaints against the purchase of land since 2016-2017. The police said that the accused demanded Rs 2 crore from the complainant and after due negotiations it was brought down to Rs 23 lakh. “he had accepted Rs 2 lakh and was asking for the rest amount. The complainant registered a case and the accused was trapped red handed for accepting Rs 11 lakh on Saturday.
A case has been registered with the Vishnu nagar police and the accused were produced in the court who remanded them to police custody till Wednesday.
