25-year-old man from Surat dies by suicide after struggling with job loss

A 25-year-old diamond worker, Aniket Thakur, tragically ended his life by jumping into the Tapi River in Surat. Unable to find work after the Diwali vacation due to the ongoing diamond industry crisis, Thakur was deeply distressed by his inability to support his family.

SURAT: A 25-year-old man who worked in the diamond industry killed himself by jumping into the Tapi from the cable bridge. Aniket Thakur was reported missing on Monday after he left home to look for work. When he didn't return, his family filed a missing person's complaint with Udhna police. Thakur's body was found in the Tapi near Makkai Bridge.
Thakur had been employed at a diamond unit for the last five years. He lived in a rented house in the Vijaynagar neighbourhood of Udhna with his parents and sister. Thakur, who was Maharashtra, was unable to find work after Diwali when his unit shut for the vacation and did not reopen because of the ongoing diamond industry crisis.
Thakur was distressed as he couldn't make ends meet. He would leave home every morning looking for work. He had not managed to find work for the couple of months.
On Monday too, he also told family members that he was going to look for a job.
