6 super speciality OPDs to move from IGMC to AIMSS
Shimla: Starting Dec 23, the outpatient department (OPD) services for six super specialities will be moved from Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, to the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities (AIMSS) in Chamiana, on the outskirts of the city.
The OPD services of the departments of neurology, endocrinology, nephrology, urology, plastic surgery, and gastroenterology will run from AIMSS, Chamiana. This decision has been taken in compliance with the Himachal Pradesh high court’s Dec 18 orders.
While hearing a public interest litigation (PIL), the High Court division bench, comprising acting chief justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and justice Satyen Vaidya, observed on Dec 18 that various authorities ensured compliance with most of its directions. Therefore, it saw no reason why AIMSS Chamiana should not get going in a phased manner, particularly when huge investments were made in putting in place the buildings, other infrastructure, and the machines installed there.
The court noticed that a reasonably good approach road was now available to the hospital, except for a bottleneck of 300 meters at the entry point at Bhattakuffar, for which steps were being taken for the acquisition of the land by the SDM, Shimla (Rural). The HRTC has also undertaken to run three shuttle buses for the patients. Moreover, the canteen, medical shops, and other facilities and amenities were also in place.
“Taking into consideration that there is an acute shortage of nurses both in IGMC and AIMSS, we permit 35 nurses to be deputed from the Trauma Centre IGMC to AIMSS,” the High Court ordered. The court further added that adequate manpower for upkeep, maintenance, and cleanliness of the AIMSS premises shall be placed at the disposal of the medical superintendent by the principal secretary (health).
