RAJKOT: Security at the famous Somnath temple will be stepped up by the end of November. Director-General of Police Chitranjan Singh, who visited the temple and also assessed the existing security situation at the temple, said one deputy superintendent of police, two police inspectors and six police sub-inspectors would be deployed, apart from 100 more constables.
Besides this, high-range CCTV cameras would be installed on the temple premises, guest house, bus stand and at the main market, so that close vigil on tourists is kept.
Sources say that police have been adding more surveillance systems at popular pilgrimage places. In fact, modern and advanced electronic surveillance systems are on the cards at Somnath Temple, which will also get more watch towers.
Located on the western coast of Gujarat, Somnath temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva.
