NOIDA: Samajwadi party on Sunday declared Kajal Sharma as its candidate for the Noida bypolls. Kajal is the wife of Guddu Pandit, a two-time sitting MLA from Dibai in Bulandshahr. Guddu hails from Gijhod village in Noida. His brother Mukesh Pandit is also a sitting MLA from Shikarpur in Bulandshahr.
"Kajal is good candidate to contest election from Noida.
We will decide the further course of action and the filling of nomination on Monday," said Guddu Pandit.
Other parties such as
Congress and BJP have not declared their candidates yet. However, sources in BJP said the party high command has decided to field Pankaj Singh, son of senior party leader Rajnath Singh, in the bypolls. Similarly, sources in Congress said senior leader Raghuraj Singh is most likely to be the front runner in the upcoming elections. BSP and AAP, on the other hand have decided to give the bypolls a miss.
Bypolls to eleven assembly seats including Noida, will be held on September 13. The last date of nomination is August 27 and the last date of withdrawal is August 30. The results will be declared on September 16.
The Noida assembly seat fell vacant after MLA Mahesh Sharma contested the Lok Sabha election earlier this year from the Gautam Budh Nagar seat and won.
In Noida, BJP workers were upbeat about the party's chances. Party officials said there are some "good candidates" but a final decision will be taken by the party headquarters. "I can assure you neither my wife nor any person in my family will contest the bypolls," Mahesh Sharma said. However Sharma's close aid is also betting to obtain ticket.
