Max Temperature Falls Below 40 deg C, Light Rains to Continue
Nagpur: Heat-prone zones like Brahmapuri, Chandrapur, Nagpur, Wardha, and Yavatmal recorded an appreciable fall in maximum temperature following light rain at isolated places and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds on Sunday. Maximum temperatures, especially in these districts, fell below 40 degrees Celsius after around three weeks.
Following an orange alert in Amravati, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Yavatmal, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 50-60 kmph occurred at isolated places. Parts of Nagpur district also received light rains and thunderstorms towards the evening.
The IMD said the north-south trough now runs from west Vidarbha to the Gulf of Mannar across Marathwada, interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. This is likely to bring more rain and thunderstorms on Monday too, officials said. A yellow alert has been issued for most parts of Vidarbha, and hence the temperature is likely to be in a bearable range.
Some parts of Vidarbha continued to reel under heat. Akola and Washim were the hottest in the region with 42.4 degrees Celsius. Nagpur recorded 39.2 degrees Celsius as the mercury slid 3.4 degrees in the last 24 hours. Chandrapur also saw a drop of 3.8 degrees Celsius, with the mercury standing at 38.2 degrees in the district.
Gadchiroli recorded the biggest fall in temperature of 6.2 degrees Celsius as its maximum temperature fell to 36 degrees Celsius. The nights too were relatively cooler in all the districts.
