Bijnor: A 76-year-old man was thrashed by his son and daughter-in-law over a property dispute in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district. A video of the incident was widely circulated on social media, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place around 8am on Thursday in Swaheri Buzurg village under Kotwali City police station limits. The victim, identified as Dataram Dhiman, was trying to construct a boundary wall on a piece of land belonging to his younger son when his elder son, Rishipal Dhiman, 45, and daughter-in-law, Rajbala, 43, confronted him.
Police said the accused were allegedly pressuring him to transfer his ancestral property to them. When Dataram resisted, Rajbala allegedly snatched his walking stick and began to assault him, while Rishipal allegedly punched him multiple times.
Locals claimed that while the elderly man was being assaulted, his son was recording a video of the incident. Hearing Dataram's cries for help, neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued him. The septuagenarian suffered serious injuries in the attack.
Following a complaint lodged by Dataram, an FIR was registered against Rishipal and Rajbala. Bijnor circle officer Sangram Singh said, "We have registered a case against the accused under sections 115(2), 351(2), 352 of BNS. Legal proceedings are on."
