Ludhiana: In a bizarre case, money was deducted from the FASTag account of a person at a toll plaza though his car was "parked" outside his house in Khanna.
The owner of the car has lodged a complaint with the bank concerned and is waiting for a reversal of payment.
Talking to TOI, Paramjit Ahuja, 49, who runs a printing press and lives at New Model Town on Amloh Road, said he got a message on March 31 that his vehicle passed through Dharer Azizpur toll plaza, whereas his vehicle was parked outside his house in Khanna. As per the message, Rs 45 had been deducted from his FASTag account at 3.59 pm on March 30.
He said he was surprised and worried as he went to check whether his car was parked outside or if something had happened to it, but he found it there. He said the reason for his worry was that in 2010, their Santro was stolen from outside his house, and later police recovered it from Rajasthan.
Paramjit Ahuja said after checking the car and finding it outside the house, he contacted the company from which he got the FASTag on his car. He said they asked him to upload front and side pictures of his vehicle. Though it was a Monday, a busy day, he had to invest around three hours to raise the request for a refund as he had to send revised pictures more than once. He said the concerned agency assured him that his complaint would be resolved in 10 to 20 days.
He said it is not about money being deducted from the Fastag account, but more about the problem faced by a customer because of such an issue.
He called it a wrong practice to deduct money in such a way, and said he has heard the same thing happened with two other persons in Khanna.
Asked what, in his opinion, might have happened that led to the deduction of money, Paramjit Ahuja said it could be because of a technical issue or software-related problem.
He added that there is some loophole in the system that needs to be addressed so that customers don't have to face such issues.
On 14 August last year, a Ludhiana-based CEO claimed to have a similar experience.
